Basing on the unique “know-how” HELZ develops a new electric motor to enter Western markets

PJSC “Kharkov Electrical Engineering Plant “UKRELECTROMASH” (HELZ), a large electrical engineering plant is the leader in manufacturing induction motors in Ukraine. The company has recently proceeded to the design of an absolutely new motor to be launched on the market in 2009.

It is going about a variable switched reluctance motor (VSR) with unique technical specifications.

Research and development activities based on HELZ’s “know-how” apply the integrated method of calculating the engineering factors VSR motor and intended consumer area.

Therefore the pilot sample of the VRS motor is already produced and scientific-technological and design works for creating VSR series are being performed. The estimates revealed that the new motor will consume 30% less energy than motors actually used in the industry.

VSR motor is the next step in the technical development. Based on SR-technologies, it is more energy efficient, simpler and reliable than AC and DC motors of the same class with frequency converter. VSR motor has a wide rotation speed range: from one to ten thousand rpm. At the same time the control function is realized in electronic commutator of variable-switched-reluctance motor. VSR motor are marked with high efficiency (90% and higher) through the whole speed range.

VSR motor can be used in all fields where speed rate control is needed. These are systems of ventilation and conditioning, industrial conveyor lines, pumps, mining equipment, airspace area, household appliances (washing machines, vacuum cleaners, kitchen devises), as well as generators. VSR generators have the efficiency more than 83 %, three times higher and with the same overall dimensions and extended service life. One of the promising ways of using VSR generators is the application in heavy duty trucks, buses, tractors, railway carriages, etc.

Nowadays the VSR motor is designed by such companies as General Electric, Emotron, Electrolux, LG Electronics, Emerson SR Drive and used in their own production. But this technology did not have a wide industrial application yet.

HELZ is the only one large company in Ukraine able to develop and implement VSR motor into the industry in short terms.

“Now we produce the products that many companies make. But if we want to be successful we need to present a new product. VSR motor is unique, and we have all the possibilities to enter Western market with this product. CIS market capacity for frequency converter motors is not large. And in the West it is already an ordinary thing for every machinery where changing speed rate is required.
